Work suspended at Tsing Yi site after fatal accident

The Labour Department said it’s ordered the suspension of work at a construction site in Tsing Yi after a fatal accident on Sunday afternoon in which a male worker fell from the second floor. The worker was certified dead in the hospital.

It said the worker had been engaged in metal structural work on a mixing tower of a concrete batching plant that was being built.

“We commenced an immediate on-site investigation as soon as we were notified of the accident and issued a suspension notice to the contractor concerned, suspending all construction work on 2/F of the metal structure of the mixing tower under construction on the site,” the department said in a statement.

“The contractor cannot resume the work process until the LD is satisfied that measures to abate the relevant risks have been taken.”
