Woman, boy denied bail over ‘seditious leaflets’

A woman and a boy were remanded in custody on Tuesday after appearing in West Kowloon Court accused of handling out leaflets promoting Hong Kong independence.

Chloe Cho, a 45-year-old clerk, and student Wong Chun-wai, 17, are charged with conspiring to produce and distribute seditious publications last year.

Police said national security officers arrested the pair on Sunday. But they were charged under the Crimes Ordinance, rather than the national security law.

Chief magistrate Victor So adjourned the case until August 4 after prosecutors said the police needed more time to go through phones and computers seized from the accused.
