Updated LeaveHomeSafe makes jab status clear

The government on Thursday said a new updated version of its LeaveHomeSafe app will make it easier for people to prove their Covid vaccination or exemption status in order to be allowed to enter premises covered by the “vaccine pass” arrangement.

After scanning into a venue, the app will automatically display a blue QR code of the user’s electronic vaccination record or an exemption certificate issued by a doctor. If the user has neither of these things, the display will be red.

Another change to the updated app will see a timer on the display once the user has scanned a venue’s QR code.

“Not only does the upgrade allow easy checking of a user’s duration of stay, it also prevents anyone from using screenshots to enter a venue and thereby helps venue operators to verify the authenticity of the app,” a government statement said.

The statement urged people to update LeaveHomeSafe via the relevant app store and not to delete and reinstall it. This way the previous visit records will be retained.
