UK appoints new consul general to Hong Kong

In a statement, the British Foreign Office says Brian Davidson will take office next month, replacing Andrew Heyn, who has now retired from the diplomatic service.

Davidson joined the Foreign Service in 1985, and has served diplomatic roles in China, Lithuania and Australia.

He was a diplomat in Beijing between 1988 and 1992, and was appointed consul general in Guangzhou from 2006 to 2010 and consul general in Shanghai between 2011 and 2015.

He has served as the UK ambassador to Thailand since 2016.

The veteran diplomat married his husband, Scott, at the British Embassy in Beijing in 2014.

“I started my overseas career in Beijing in the late 80s and have had two further postings in China, so returning to Hong Kong as Consul General very much feels like a role I’ve been working towards for much of my life,” Davidson said.

“Scott and I are really excited about making Hong Kong our family home for the next few years.”
