Two Covid patients die including girl aged 3

The Hospital Authority said late on Tuesday that a three-year-old girl who was infected with Covid-19 had died that evening.

The girl had been in intensive care at the Hong Kong Children’s Hospital since Sunday, but her condition deteriorated and she passed away at 8.37pm on Tuesday.

Meanwhile a 100-year-old chronically ill woman who was admitted to Tseung Kwan O Hospital after testing preliminary positive for the coronavirus passed away at around 8pm on Tuesday.

In a statement, the authority said it was “saddened about the passing away of the patients and would offer the necessary assistance to their families”.

Including these two patients, 217 people have died in public hospitals after testing positive or preliminary positive for Covid-19 since the pandemic began.

The girl was the second child to die in Hong Kong with the coronavirus in recent days. A four-year-old boy who died at Pok Oi Hospital on Friday also tested positive for Covid.
