Two arrested over gas mask imports

Customs and police officers seized 14 gas masks and eight filter canisters in an investigation into imports of unlicensed goods bought on the internet.

A 27-year-old man was arrested at a flat in Tai Po and a 14-year-old boy was picked up in Tai Wai on suspicion of bringing in products listed as strategic commodities under the Import and Export Ordinance.

The pair have been released on bail pending further investigation, and officers say more arrests are possible.

Police said they also seized seven imitation firearms and two walkie-talkies at the Tai Po flat.

Importing strategic commodities carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison and an unlimited fine.
