Tuen Mun Hospital apologises for losing specimen

Tuen Mun Hospital on Friday apologised to a patient after losing a breast tissue specimen of hers.

In a statement, a hospital spokesperson said the patient had an ultrasound guided biopsy done on Wednesday, and the specimen was successfully collected by a radiologist.

But after the specimen bottle was sent to the Pok Oi Hospital pathology lab that afternoon, a staff member found there was nothing in the bottle.

“The patient has been arranged to undergo another biopsy procedure this month and the medical team will continue to closely monitor her condition,” the hospital said.

It said it’s very concerned about the incident, and has reported the case to the Hospital Authority’s head office for investigation.
