A tree pruner with the Leisure and Cultural Services Department died on Wednesday, after the crane she was working on collapsed.
Her co-worker suffered waist injuries.
The accident happened at the junction of Water Street and Des Voeux Road West shortly after 9am.
Video footage circulating online showed the elevated platform, which the workers were working on, plunging after the crane supporting the platform broke.
The 55-year-old worker was unconscious and died after being rushed to Queen Mary Hospital.
The Labour Department is investigating the case.
