Toddler, helper saved after alleged kidnap

Police have arrested a 42-year-old man in connection with the alleged abduction of a foreign domestic helper and a toddler.

Officers said they received a report at around 8am on Wednesday that the two alleged victims had been dragged into a vehicle on Victoria Road in Pok Fu Lam.

Hours later, police received a call that a helper was screaming for help in Pat Heung, Yuen Long.

Officers located the pair and they were taken to hospital for check-ups. They had minor wrist injuries and were discharged later in the day.

A villager told reporters that the hands of the 39-year-old helper and the 19-month-old baby girl were tied up.

It’s understood that they live at Residence Bel-Air in Cyberport, and the toddler’s father is a Japanese man who runs a restaurant in Hong Kong.

Police said they arrested a suspect in Kwu Tung, Sheung Shui in the early hours on Thursday and located the vehicle believed to have been used in the case.

Officers said more arrests could follow.
