Six activists denied bail over 2019 protest

The District Court on Tuesday denied bail for six veteran pro-democracy activists who pleaded guilty to organising an unauthorised protest on October 1, 2019, as they await their sentences.

Upon an application by the Department of Justice, Judge Amanda Woodcock revoked the bail of former lawmakers Albert Ho, Yeung Sum, and Sin Chung-kai and activists Figo Chan, Avery Ng and Richard Tsoi.

They are among ten defendants who on Monday admitted to organising the protest on Hong Kong Island.

The remaining four defendants, media tycoon Jimmy Lai and former legislators Lee Cheuk-yan, Leung Kwok-hung and Cyd Ho are serving prison terms in relation to other cases.

The judge will hear mitigation pleas on May 24 and hand down sentences on May 28.
