Second person dies after Tai Po taxi smash

A second person has died following a serious crash in Tai Po on Sunday when a taxi ploughed into a group of people on a pedestrian island.

A 63-year-old woman, who had been critically injured in the smash, died in Tuen Mun Hospital on Monday morning.

A 59-year-old man had been certified dead shortly after the incident on Kwong Fuk Road.

Eight other people were injured, including a four-year-old boy who is in a critical condition and a pregnant woman whose condition is serious.

The taxi driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death.
