Retired police in race against time to save history

A group of former marine police officers are trying to save Hong Kong’s last ‘dai fei’ – one of the notorious armour plated speedboats used in cross border smuggling before and around the time of the handover.

One such ‘dai fei’ captured by the authorities in 2000 with a stolen Mercedes Benz on board has been used by the authorities as a police training vessel for the past 21 years.

But now, it’s being decommissioned, and some retired officers are campaigning to save it from the scrapyard, as RTHK’s Annemarie Evans found out.
