Quarantine arrangements change for helpers from March

The government said on Tuesday that two quarantine hotels originally designated for foreign domestic helpers arriving in Hong Kong will be converted to house Covid-19 patients from March 1.

From then on, helpers will observe the same quarantine rules as other inbound travellers.

The government said the changes were made in light of the severe local epidemic situation.

Regala Skycity Hotel at Chek Lap Kok and iclub Ma Tau Wai Hotel will be used to isolate patients with mild or no symptoms, and helpers staying there will be moved to other quarantine hotels or facilities unless their quarantine periods end before February 24.

Helpers who are checking in at Regala Skycity Hotel before March 1 will be transferred to Sha Tin Courtyard by Marriott, and the government will pay for the price difference.

A government spokesman said the hotels will contact those affected individually.

Helpers who were to check into the two hotels after March 1 will have their bookings fully refunded, and their employment agencies will have to make bookings at other facilities.
