Preliminary cases found in two overnight lockdowns

Health officials said on Friday that they found single preliminary positive Covid cases in two overnight lockdown and testing operations in Kwai Fong and Wong Tai Sin.

The authorities moved in at Block C of New Kwai Fong Gardens and blocks one and two of Hsin Kuang Centre on Lung Cheung Road in Wong Tai Sin on Thursday evening.

Another resident of the Kwai Fong block had earlier tested preliminary positive for the virus, while traces of Covid-19 were found in sewage samples at the Wong Tai Sin buildings.

By midnight, officials had tested 515 people at New Kwai Fong Gardens, with one sample coming back positive. The resident was admitted to hospital while their close contacts were sent to a quarantine centre.

People who had taken a test were allowed to leave at 8.30am.

At Wong Tai Sin, one of the 1,030 tests taken came back positive. The case has been handed on to the Centre for Health Protection and the Department of Health.

People were allowed to leave the block from around 10.50am.

Officials say they also checked the test records of 115 people at Kwai Fong on Friday morning. Two of the people were found not to have complied with the testing order. Both were given further testing orders, with one receiving a $5,000 fixed penalty.

Separately, overnight lockdowns at another block in Wong Tai Sin and a building in Kwun Tong ended on Friday with no positive tests.
