Police to deploy over 8,000 officers on National Day

Sources have told RTHK that the police are planning to deploy more than 8,000 officers across the city on Friday, to ensure various ceremonies and public activities are conducted in an orderly and safe manner on National Day.

There will be a strong police presence in the vicinity of the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai – where top officials and other dignitaries will attend a flag-raising ceremony and a reception on Friday morning.

Roads around the venue have been closed off.

Police sources said their elite units, including the so-called “raptor squad” as well as the counter terrorism response unit, will conduct “high-profile” patrols at what they described as “sensitive locations”.

They added that the force will continue to conduct risk assessments and enhance officers’ protective gear.
