Police seize frozen meat worth HK$500m

Police said on Tuesday they had seized 1,700 tonnes of frozen meat worth HK$500 million that could have been destined to be smuggled to the mainland.

Officers also seized two speedboats, arresting a man on suspicion of operating a cold store without a licence and constructing vessels for the purpose of smuggling.

The force said it raided a site in Lung Kwu Tan after learning that meat was being stored in refrigerated containers there before being moved at sea, by barge and speedboat.

Separately, marine police said they had found three modified speedboats in Deep Bay and Lantau that they believed could have been used by smugglers.
