Police make record drugs seizure

Police said on Thursday they had made their largest drug seizure of the year, netting 148 kilogrammes of ice and 86 kilogrammes of heroin.

The haul was estimated to be worth HK$195 million.

Officers said the drugs were uncovered on Wednesday at an industrial building in Cheung Sha Wan – which they linked to a drugs syndicate they have been investigating for two months.

A 22-year-old man was arrested at the building, and he will appear at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

The force said that between May and July they have arrested a total of 13 suspects, aged between 16 and 45, who they believe are linked to the syndicate. They’re suspected of conspiracy and trafficking in dangerous drugs, manufacturing dangerous drugs, and obstructing police.

Police characterised the syndicate’s operations as very sophisticated, and said younger members often had to shoulder any risks. But the force added that they wouldn’t tolerate any criminal act, even if the suspects are young.
