Police investigating Yau Ma Tei bank robbery

Police are in search of a man who robbed a bank in Yau Ma Tei of HK$14,000 in cash on Thursday afternoon.

Officers said the suspect, believed to be around 40 to 50 years old, entered the bank on Nathan Road after 3:30pm.

He brandished what looked like a gun and passed a note to a staff member, demanding money.

The force said the suspect fled after he was given HK$14,000.

Superintendent Alan Chung of the Kowloon West regional crime unit said a staff member from the bank who gave chase saw the suspect cross the road and board a bus heading towards Sham Shui Po.

Chung said it’s not clear whether the suspect was carrying a real gun.
