Partial evacuation at Tsuen Wan block after two cases

Health authorities decided to evacuate more than a dozen households from a residential block in Tsuen Wan Garden on Tuesday evening after identifying possible vertical transmission of the Covid virus there.

Two residents of Glory Court, who live in unit five on the 12th floor and the rooftop, have come down with Covid-19.

Speaking after inspecting the building, Albert Au from the Centre for Health Protection said officials suspect the coronavirus might have been transmitted through a sewer vent pipe leading up to the roof.

“When we were at the roof, we saw that the vent pipe was located right outside the unit’s kitchen and bathroom, and there’s a chance air current carrying the virus entered the unit after coming out of the vent and infected the patient,” Au said.

He said the authorities were sending those living in unit five from the 4th floor upwards to quarantine.

Au added that residents living in unit four from the 16th floor upwards will also be sent to quarantine after considering their risks from the vent pipe.

Other residents of the building have been ordered to undergo mandatory testing.
