Observatory issues Strong Wind Signal Number 3

The observatory on Monday issued the Strong Wind Signal Number 3 as tropical storm Cempaka edged closer to the coast of western Guangdong.

Senior Scientific Officer Tong Yu-fai said the signal would be in force for some time as the storm’s intensity and track remained uncertain.

He said the observatory would closely monitor its movements and development.

“The rain bands associated with Cempaka will continue to affect Hong Kong and bring occasional heavy showers and squalls to the territory tonight and tomorrow,” Tong said.

He added that the bad weather would continue to affect Hong Kong over the next couple of days.
