NPC members to hold street booths to listen to HKers

National People’s Congress Standing Committee member Tam Yiu-chung said on Thursday the city’s NPC members will be holding street booths during the weekend to promote their political platforms and listen to the public’s views.

Tam said the members will use their power carefully to nominate and vote for candidates running for chief executive and for Legco.

Local NPC and CPPCC delegates are ex-officio members in the revamped 1,500-strong Election Committee and do not need to run for a seat.

But a CPPCC Standing Committee member, Henry Tang, denied that this means they don’t represent Hong Kong people.

The former chief secretary said Hong Kong’s electoral reform allowed representatives from more sectors and parties to become part of its political system.
