No new infections found at Allway Garden

Health authorities on Thursday said they had found no new infections, after testing some 460 residents of Block R of Allway Gardens in Tsuen Wan. The residents have all now been quarantined for 21 days after a recently-arrived foreign domestic helper was found with a highly-infectious strain of Covid.

The ambush lockdown began on Tuesday morning and, as of noon on Wednesday, all resident testing samples had been collected, with the process being completed just after midnight.

Tsuen Wan district councillor, Chiu Yan-loy, complained about the evacuation of the building. He said people had been kept waiting at home for hours with no information and that one man had been taken to hospital after becoming emotional.

Meanwhile, the president of the Public Doctors’ Association Arisina Ma has said the government needs to prepare more quarantine places, as it tries to stop the spread of more-infectious Covid variants in the community.

Over the past week, hundreds of households in four residential blocks in Tung Chung, Tsuen Wan, Quarry Bay and Pokfulam have been quarantined for 21 days after confirmed cases were found in the buildings.

“First of all we need to prepare larger capacity for quarantine because yesterday there are like more and more multi-level buildings have been sent for quarantine,” she said.

“And now thousands and thousands of numbers of residents have been sent to the quarantine camp, and we all expect the news that the camp will fill up soon – and the service, the equipment, the food, the arrangements will start to be a bit chaotic.”

The government has said it is grateful to those who have been subject to compulsory testing, thanking them for their support and understanding.
