No cases found in Discovery Bay, Tuen Mun lockdowns

Health officials said on Wednesday morning that they had found no cases of Covid-19 in overnight lockdown and testing operations at residential blocks linked to two Cathay Pacific air crew members.

The government said it tested 210 people at Twilight Court in Discovery Bay’s Peninsula Village and a further 515 residents of The SeaCrest in Tuen Mun in the operations, which began at 7pm on Tuesday.

The government said people would be allowed to leave Twilight Court in Peninsula Village from 6am and The SeaCrest from 6.15am as long as they can show proof of testing, either in the form of an SMS message or a wristband given when they took the test. Officials say around 210 people were tested by 1am.

Staff visited 140 households at Discovery Bay and received no answer at 30 of them, which may include vacant homes or households undergoing quarantine. They visited 215 households in Tuen Mun, among which around 30 didn’t answer.

A 46-year-old Cathay Pacific flight crew member living in Discovery Bay was one of six people confirmed to have the virus on Tuesday, and a 44-year-old crew member who lives in Tuen Mun tested preliminary positive.

Both returned to Hong Kong from the United States on Christmas Day and were exempt from quarantine.

The government announced in response to the cases that cargo aircrew would be required to undergo three days of hotel quarantine when they fly into Hong Kong, instead of being allowed to isolate at home.
