New centre to give Sinovac to children and elderly

The government announced on Thursday a new vaccination centre would be set up at the Hong Kong Central Library in Causeway Bay to give the Sinovac coronavirus jabs to children, teenagers and the elderly.

The centre will start operating from February 23. Bookings will start at 9am on Monday.

People aged three to 17 and those aged 60 or above are eligible to receive the shots at this centre.

In a statement, the Secretary for the Civil Service, Patrick Nip, who’s in charge of the city’s vaccination programme, said the current epidemic situation is of grave concern, with some children and elderly people developing serious complications and dying of Covid-19.

“They are our focus of protection. As such, we set up this community vaccination centre dedicated for children, teenagers and elderly persons to enable them to get vaccinated as early as possible so as to reduce the risk of serious illness and death from Covid-19 infection,” he said.

He appeals to parents and family members of elderly persons to book vaccinations for them as early as possible.

Same-day tickets will also be distributed at the vaccination centre.
