Minibus driver arrested after fatal accident

Police said they have arrested a 70-year-old minibus driver for dangerous driving causing death after an accident in Yau Ma Tei on New Year’s Eve.

Police told a briefing early on New Year’s Day that they had been notified at about 6pm that a public light bus had hit an elderly passer-by while turning into Canton Road from Ningbo Street.

They said the 77-year-old man was trapped under the vehicle.

He was rescued by a firefighter, but had suffered multiple injuries was pronounced dead on the spot.

Police later found the minibus on Castle Peak Road near Sham Tseng.
