Man arrested over firebomb attack at Government House

Police said they have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with a suspected firebomb attack at the Chief Executive’s residence in Central in the early hours of Thursday.

The force said the jobless man was arrested in Ma On Shan on Friday morning and they’re investigating his motive.

Authorities were called to the Government House for investigation after a slope near the compound was on fire at around 2 am.

Detectives later found several bottles of combustible material and LPG cylinders at the scene, and believed they had been used to make the “homemade firebomb”.

Officers warned arson is a serious offence and offenders face a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
