Mainland medics arrive in Hong Kong

A team of 75 medical workers from the mainland arrived in Hong Kong on Monday to help the SAR fight the coronavirus outbreak.

They will work at the community treatment facility at the AsiaWorld-Expo on Lantau.

The team’s leader, Yu Tao, said all of the medical staff came from top hospitals in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Foshan and Zhuhai, describing them as the best soldiers.

Yu said he hoped they could quickly integrate and serve residents here.

The Under Secretary for Health, Chui Tak-yi, who welcomed the medical team at the Shenzhen Bay port, said there was a staff shortage bottleneck in Hong Kong’s anti-epidemic work.

He said the team would work with Hospital Authority staff and ensure Covid patients receive appropriate care.

The chairman of the Hospital Authority, Henry Fan, meanwhile, said the mainland team was a godsend, as medical workers in Hong Kong were facing a heavy workload.

Fan added that he hoped Hong Kong could learn from the mainland team, which had a wealth of experience when it came to treating Covid patients.
