Lockdown of Tung Chung block extended

The government on Thursday extended the lockdown of a residential block in Tung Chung for a second day.

A mass Covid-19 testing exercise at Mun Wo House in Mun Tung Estate found 68 suspected cases and three undetermined ones.

Residents must get tested again for the virus, with the operation expected to end by Friday afternoon.

The public housing block had been sealed off since Wednesday afternoon, after sewage samples there tested positive for the coronavirus. Authorities had also discovered a preliminary positive case.

A government spokesman said there’s a significant risk of infection at the building so it is necessary to extend the lockdown to prevent the coronavirus from spreading further.
