Legco poll turnout reaches 26.5 percent by 7.30pm

Turnout for the 2021 Legislative Council elections continued to rise in the final hours of polling on Sunday, with authorities reporting that 1,184,829 people had cast their ballots by 7.30pm.

The turnout of 26.5 percent for the directly-elected geographical constituency seats compares to 43.6 percent of registered voters who had cast their ballots by this time in the 2016 elections – when the vote started one hour earlier.

The turnout for the functional constituency elections was at 27.9 percent by 7.30pm for the 2021 polls – compared to 54.2 percent at the same point five years ago; while almost 97.5 of electors in the Election Committee had already cast their votes.

Most polling stations will close at 10.30pm on Sunday evening, though hours will be extended slightly at eight centres to ensure voters have adequate time to cast their ballots following some technical glitches earlier in the day.
