Kwun Tong line services return to normal

The MTR Corporation said on Saturday that services have returned to normal after problems at Yau Tong Station affected the Kwung Tong line.

It said it temporarily closed the Yau Tong station and suspended train services between Tiu Keng Leng and Kwun Tong on the Kwun Tong line, following what it called a “malfunction” with the platform screen doors at the Yau Tong station.

The police said they received a report at around 1:10pm that smoke and flames could be seen at platform two of Yau Tong station.

A spokesman said passengers were evacuated and the fire was put out. No injuries were reported.

Train services between Kwun Tong and Whampoa were not affected, with trains running every four minutes.

The MTR announced the closure of the station at around 1:50pm, and arranged a shuttle service between Kwun Tong and Yau Tong.

Yau Tong station reopened at about 2.30pm.

Train services on the Kwun Tong returned to normal shortly before 4pm.
