Kwai Chung cluster rises to 70: sources

Sources say Covid testing at two public housing blocks in Kwai Chung Estate under lockdown have now found at least 70 preliminary positive cases.

The government has imposed a five-day lockdown of Yat Kwai House which started on Friday.

A lockdown in Ying Kwai House is expected to end at 7pm on Saturday.

Officials have yet to confirm the test results.

Health officials earlier said they believed a refuse-collector — who’s part of the Silka Hotel cluster — had spread the virus around Yat Kwai House, triggering what they call a super-spreading event involving more than 20 infections as of Friday.

On Saturday morning, several residents classified as close contacts of the infected persons were sent to a quarantine camp.

The government is providing food and daily necessities to residents, and has set up temporary testing centres.

Staff are also conducting tests at the homes of elderly residents or the disabled.
