I’ll uphold ‘One Country, Two Systems’: John Lee

John Lee on Monday said his administration will implement the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ principle resolutely, during his meeting with the director of Beijing’s Liaison office Luo Huining.

During his visit – one of his stops at four central government offices in Hong Kong – he also said he hopes Beijing will continue to support the SAR.

In response, Luo said Beijing fully supports the SAR government, adding that Lee’s election with a high number of votes shows not just the solemn choice of the Election Committee members but also the will of the people.

In a meeting with the director of the Office for Safeguarding National Security, Zheng Yanxiong, the CE-elect said he will attach great importance to laying a solid foundation for development, adding that he thanks the office for supporting the SAR’s work in protecting national security.

Zheng was quoted by the Hong Kong China News Agency as saying that the office will continue to perform its duties for the sake of the country’s security and the city’s prosperity and stability.

He added that Hong Kong will enter a new chapter of ‘One Country, Two Systems’ under the leadership of the new Chief Executive and administration.

Lee also paid visits to the Foreign Ministry’s office in the territory and the headquarters of the People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison.
