Hong Kong logs 14,152 new Covid cases

Health authorities on Tuesday reported 14,152 new local Covid cases.

Among them, 4,296 were confirmed by PCR tests in laboratories, while 9,856 people reported their positive rapid test results via an online platform.

The Centre for Health Protection also reported another 245 deaths – eight of whom were not admitted to hospitals – taking the death toll to 6,151 and the fatality rate to 0.58 percent.

The Hospital Authority said 190 of them passed away in the past day, including a 42-year-old triple-jabbed man who suffered from heart problems.

The rest of the deaths occurred earlier but there was a delay in reporting.

Albert Au from the centre explained there’s a lag in the fatality rate as it’s reflecting the situation two weeks ago.

He also said the fatality rate for people who are vaccinated is 0.1 percent, which is 16 times lower than those who aren’t fully vaccinated or inoculated at all.

Au said the number of cases remains at a high level and people should not feel indifferent with the figures.

He said compulsory testing notices will be issued again, saying this should help reduce chains of transmission in the community.

“We analyse the information to identify high risk areas, including residential buildings, before recommending the Food and Health Bureau to issue compulsory testing notice,” Au said.
