Hong Kong gears up for Legco election

Hongkongers head to the polls on Sunday for the Legislative Council election, the first under the revamped system whereby only people deemed patriots will be standing.

Polling stations will be open between 8.30 am and 10.30 pm.

A total of 153 candidates are vying for 90 Legislative Council seats. The new chamber will be made up of 20 seats from geographical constituencies, 30 from functional constituencies, and 40 from the Election Committee constituency.

There are over 600 polling stations across the SAR.

Temporary polling stations have also been set up at three border crossing points so Hongkongers on the mainland can cast their votes.

To reduce the risk of Covid infection, voters will have to observe social distancing and wear masks at polling stations.
