HK reports 2 more Omicron cases involving cargo crew

Hong Kong has confirmed two more cases of the Omicron coronavirus variant, bringing the local tally to 11 so far.

One of them is among seven imported cases confirmed on Friday.

The patient, 41, is a cargo flight crew member who arrived on Wednesday on flight ACP502 via the United Arab Emirates. The flight had also been in Kenya, Uganda and India.

The asymptomatic patient tested positive for antibodies.

Officials said he had also come down with coronavirus in July last year, and was fully vaccinated with AstraZeneca in Kenya earlier this year.

His colleague, 27, who was confirmed with Covid-19 on Thursday, was also infected with Omicron.

He also arrived in Hong Kong on flight ACP502 on Wednesday. He received the Moderna vaccine in September.

As for the Cathay Pacific cargo pilot who came down with coronavirus on Thursday, authorities were still trying to confirm if he had the Omicron variant.

They said those who live in Cheung Hing Building in Yau Ma Tei, where the patient lives, and those who work in the same building, are subject to more compulsory tests.
