Govt slams Nathan Law over ‘untruthful’ remarks

The government has condemned remarks made by former lawmaker Nathan Law on Hong Kong at a meeting held in the United States.

A spokesman said in a statement: “The conduct of the so-called Summit for Democracy by the US is a disguise for it to unilaterally impose its standards on other countries, undermining democracy and creating divisions in the world.”

It said Law’s remarks “completely ignored the facts and were utter lies” and disregarded the central authorities’ comprehensive jurisdiction over Hong Kong.

The statement also said Law is a fugitive who’s suspected to have committed criminal offences in Hong Kong and chose to jump bail and abscond.

It added it’s clear that the US intended to smear China and Hong Kong by holding the meeting and inviting Law to speak.
