Government reiterates Sham Shui Po testing call

The government on Wednesday again called on people living and working in Sham Shui Po to voluntarily test for Covid, following concerns about silent transmission chains in the district. In a statement, it said eight testing points had been set up to help with the exercise.

“Confirmed cases with unknown sources have been found in several areas of Sham Shui Po district, including Tai Hang Tung Estate, Mei Foo Sun Chuen, Nam Cheong Street and Hing Wah Street,” a government spokesman said.

On Wednesday evening, Fu Yuet House of Fu Cheong Estate in Sham Shui Po was locked down for testing after a preliminary positive case was found.

The government also said sewage samples collected in the Sham Shui Po area – namely south of Nam Cheong Street, north of Boundary Street, west of Tai Hang Tung Road and Shek Kip Mei Estate area – had tested positive.

In addition to the service points, the government said people could also go to community testing centres across the city and receive free testing.

The government said, as at 9 pm on Wednesday, about 9,800 members of the public had been given free testing at the eight service points. It said it would continue to review their opening dates and hours.
