  • Four arrested over HK$16mn highway robbery

Police said they arrested four men in connection with a robbery on a car in Yau Ma Tei.

Officers said the robbers crashed their car into the victim’s vehicle on Hoi Po Road and smashed the windows with hammers before stealing HK$16 million in cash.

They said the businessman was on his way to a money changer at the time.

Officers said they arrested the four suspects on Thursday and they’re still being detained.

The police said the four people, aged between 24 and 26, were members of a crime syndicate.

The police said a GPS device had been installed on the victim’s car, so that the suspects could track it, although they didn’t personally know the victim.

They said they recovered a total of HK$1.5 million in cars and watches allegedly bought with the proceeds, including HK$200,000 cash.

Police said more arrests may follow.
