Speaking at a seminar hosted by the pro-government DAB party, Lam said one of the aims of Beijing overhauling the SAR’s electoral system was to ensure its effective governance.
She said one key factor needed to achieve that was having a lot of talented people who can manage Hong Kong.
“Taking part in elections is not the only way for people to pursue a career in politics. To ensure effective governance, people need to take up the hot seats available in the government,” she said.
She noted that the government had recruited a lot of members from political parties, especially the DAB.
She said although there is only one year left for her administration, officials would not slack off, but would make good use of every day to do real work and solve problems in society.
