Eight hurt after car rolls backwards in Central

Two women were rushed to Queen Mary Hospital in an unconscious state on Friday after a car rolled backwards, before stopping at the junction of Peel Street and Staunton Street in Central.

The two were among eight pedestrians, four males and four females, who were injured.

The accident happened at about 8 pm, when the area – known for its bars and restaurants – was busy with revellers.

Social media footage showed people rushing to the scene and lifting up the damaged car, dragging at least one person away, who seems to have been trapped.

Sources say the car had rolled backwards for more than a hundred metres, hitting a lamp-post and coming to a stop in front of a small temple.

Police moved in and quickly sealed off the area.
