Driver arrested after fatal crash in Wong Tai Sin

Police have arrested a 25-year-old man for dangerous driving causing death after a fatal traffic accident in Wong Tai Sin on New Year’s Eve in which a 23-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man died.

They said that shortly after 6pm on Friday, a private car was travelling along Tai Yau Street towards Choi Hung Road, but the driver apparently lost control near Pat Tat Street, and the vehicle hit a taxi, running on to the pavement and knocking down five pedestrians and ramming into a shop.

They said the 23-year-old woman sustained serious head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The 63-year-old man also suffered serious head injuries and was sent to United Christian Hospital where he was certified dead at 7.03pm.

A 29-year-old man, a 43-year-old woman and a 63-year-old woman were taken to hospital.

The driver of the car was taken to hospital, but was subsequently arrested.
