Doctor convicted of manslaughter over botched surgery

A doctor was on Monday found guilty of manslaughter over a botched liposuction operation in 2014 in which her patient died.

After a 29-day trial, a seven-member jury at the High Court deliberated for eight hours before unanimously finding Vanessa Kwan guilty of killing Josephine Lee through gross negligence in the fat-removal procedure.

Lee fell into a coma during the surgery at a hair transplant centre in Tsim Sha Tsui in June 2014 before she died.

Kwan was remanded for sentencing on September 3. Judge Susana D’Almada Remedios revoked bail, citing the severity of the offence.
