Deputy Commissioner for Labour tests Covid positive

The government said on Thursday that Deputy Commissioner for Labour, Jeff Leung, has tested positive for Covid-19.

Leung is believed to be the highest-ranking official to have come down with the virus since the pandemic began two years ago.

In a statement, the Labour Department said “the staff member” worked on the 16th floor of Harbour Building in Central.

It said Leung last worked from the office on January 31 and did not take part in any meetings that day. It also said he did not have any contact with the public during work.

The department added that it had arranged thorough cleaning and disinfection at the premises concerned.
