The Democratic Party says two of its former lawmakers were charged on Friday with contempt under the Legislative Council (Powers and Privileges) Ordinance.

Andrew Wan was charged with two offences and Helena Wong with one. They will appear before Eastern Magistrates on Tuesday.

Both had previously been charged with conspiring to subvert state power under the national security law, along with 45 other pan-democrats. The charges relate to an unofficial primary election to select candidates for the now-delayed Legco poll.

It’s understood that the new charges relate to the election of a chairman of Legco’s environmental affairs panel.

Wan has been remanded in custody over the subversion charge. Wong, who was released on bail, was charged on reporting to Yau Ma Tei police station on Friday.
