Customs arrest six over HK$300m cocaine haul

Customs officers said on Friday that they arrested six people over the past two weeks in connection with a HK$300 million cocaine seizure.

On October 19, some 260 kilogrammes of the drug was discovered inside a container of frozen food imported from Brazil.

Lee Kam-wing, head of Customs’ drug investigation bureau, said an X-ray scan of the cargo in Tsing Yi revealed the haul.

“The way they stored the drugs seemed to be perfect… it’s hard to find the drugs simply by observation. But it was easy for Customs’ X-ray screening system to detect the drugs stored inside a secret compartment,” Lee said.

Officials said the arrests were made following searches of several places across the territory, including a hotel and flats in Tin Shui Wai and Yuen Long.
