About 200,000 construction workers in the city will be regularly tested for Covid-19 tests after several major outbreaks were linked to building sites.

According to a statement released by the Construction Industry Council and the Construction Association on Wednesday, workers will be required to present a negative test result from the previous two weeks before entering a construction site for work.

The scheme will begin on February 16, and will be fully implemented from February 22.

The announcement comes as outbreaks were reported from sites at the airport’s third runway and the Lam Tin-Tseung Kwan O Tunnel.

It also comes amid calls for the government to implement compulsory testing for construction workers and to lock down sites if there are any outbreaks.
