Civic Passion on Friday announced it was disbanding, a little more than a week after its chairman, Cheng Chung-tai, was ousted from the Legislative Council because the authorities decided he is not loyal to Hong Kong.
In a statement posted on the group’s Facebook page, Cheng thanked people for their support over the past nine years.
He said since the road in politics has come to an end, Civic Passion has decided to cease operations, effective immediately.
Cheng added that the group’s two district councillors, Wong Wing-sze and Wong Siu-kin, resigned from their posts on Friday.
The authorities stripped Cheng of his Legco seat last week after ruling that he isn’t fit to join the Election Committee as an ex-officio member.
