Cabbie arrested after crashing into PLA barracks gate

A taxi driver has been arrested for criminal damage and entering a closed area without permit, after he crashed into a gate of the Central Barracks of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army on Saturday night.

The 53-year-old man was driving along Lung Wo Road at around 6 pm, when he’s believed to have lost control of his vehicle and rammed into the gate.

No one was injured, but the driver was reportedly taken into the barracks for questioning at one point after the incident alarmed PLA soldiers.

The man was later handed over to the police, who detained him for investigation.

The police on Sunday confirmed the arrest, adding the driver had passed an alcohol test.

The force said its Central district crime squad is following up on the case.
