  • Over 300 representatives from business and not-for-profit and social sectors attend HKEX’s Inaugural Impact Summit
  • Corporate philanthropy, stakeholder capitalism and collaboration models among key themes of discussion
  • HKEX announced 28 projects will be funded by the HKEX Charity Partnership Programme and the HKEX Impact Funding Scheme in 2022

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) today (Friday) was pleased to host its inaugural HKEX Impact Summit, providing a unique platform for corporate change-makers and social innovators to connect and share their insights on promoting corporate philanthropy, as well as fostering stronger bonds between businesses and society.

The Impact Summit gathered more than 300 participants at HKEX Connect Hall and online, including guest of honour, Hong Kong Financial Secretary Paul Chan, senior HKEX executives, business leaders and social enterprises and NGO pioneers from across Hong Kong and the region. Panel discussions explored a broad range of topics on philanthropy trends, new models of NGO governance and projects that exemplify the creation of shared value.

HKEX Chairman Laura M Cha said: “HKEX’s role and responsibilities transcend our duties as a market operator, a regulator and a corporate. Our role in the community and our commitment to being a responsible leader are critical to our future and the future of our community. Building on our strength as a superconnector, we are proud to be hosting this inaugural event, a unique forum to foster collaboration, share insight and expertise and to promote good business practices within Hong Kong and beyond.”

HKEX CEO Nicolas Aguzin said: “The role of a business in its community is a critical element to its success and long-term sustainability. Both business and non-profit organisations have much to learn from each other and through HKEX’s Impact Summit and other initiatives, we hope to promote even greater collaboration, unleashing the potential of our combined strength, leveraging ideas and building our future, together.”

HKEX Foundation, the charitable arm of HKEX, today announced a total of 28 projects that will be funded this year, through the HKEX Charity Partnership Programme and the HKEX Impact Funding Scheme. These projects were selected through an open application process, with the HKEX Foundation, in particular, funding those that address its key focus areas of Diversity and Inclusion, Financial Literacy, Environmental Sustainability and Poverty Relief. Since HKEX Foundation was established in 2020, it has supported more than 60 projects, directly benefitting more than 430,000 individuals in Hong Kong.

The Charity Partnership Programme was first launched in 2020 and supports selected long-term projects that benefit local communities and deliver positive sustainable results – the programme is administered in partnership with The Community Chest of Hong Kong. The Impact Funding Scheme, launched in 2021 in partnership with the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, targets some of the most needy in the community, and specifically seeks to support social enterprises and non-governmental organisations that drive innovative solutions to address key social and environmental challenges.
